The eight annual MINEX Russia Mining and Exploration Forum was held in Moscow from 2 to 4 October 2012 under the key theme: “Unlocking Russia’s mineral wealth – challenges and solutions”.
MINEX is one of the largest and most authoritative industry events focusing on exploration, mining and mineral processing in Russia. This year, the forum attracted over 600 managers and directors from private companies and public organisations from Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, countries of the European Economic Community, North America, Africa, Asia and Australia.
Over 120 Russian and International speakers presented during the three-days of the forum.
The official opening ceremony was attended by Mr Denis Khramov, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation and Mr Temir Sariev, Minister of Economy and Antimonopoly Policy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
Exhibition organised on 3 and 4 October alongside the forum, attracted more than 1500 business visitors.
The forum hosted the following mining awards: The 6th “Russian Mining Excellence Award”, The 2nd National Youth Competition “From Idea to Innovation” and the 1st photo amateur contest “Miners and Mines of Russia”.
The forum participants discussed a number of important proposals for improving business environment in the Russian mining industry and stimulation of mineral exploration. Delegates welcomed proposal by Vitaly Nesis, CEO of Polymetal International Plc who urged the need for the reform of the state management methods in the Russian mining industry. Long overdue reform in his opinion even in the short term could yield tangible economic results and contribute to sharp increase of Russia’s Gold mining output which has been declining in the past few years. With great interest was also discussed the initiative by Sergey Kashuba, Chairman of the Gold Miners Union on creating in Russia a specialised mining exchange platform which could finance the growth of the Russian gold mining industry.
MINEX Russia 2012 materials will be published on 25 October on the website www.minexrussia.com and available to all participants of the forum.
